PARKS AND RECREATION

Winterville Parks and Recreation Internship Summer 2018.

The Winterville Parks & Recreation internship program seeks to expose the student to the many facets of parks and recreation management through participation in unique educational and professional development activities, with the goal of gaining valuable work experience in recreation administration, programming, facility management, and park management.

The internship is open to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as those who have recently completed their undergraduate or graduate programs and are seeking temporary practical training.  Interns should be enthusiastic and self-motivated, have strong communication, analytical reasoning, and research skills, as well as knowledge of recreation programming principles and methods. Must be able to work under time constraints, multi-task, and work independently as well as within a team. 

Specific duties during the internship include (but not limited to) maintenance, programming, and administrative work agendas. Assisting in the development and operation of recreation programs related to environmental education, cultural arts, senior citizens, athletics, health and fitness, summer camp, and other areas of recreation programming.  Maintenance of parks and facilities which include operating machinery such as mowers, weed-eaters, paint machines, etc. The internship is extremely hands on and will require quick learning, and the ability to think on your feet.

The rate of pay is $8.00 per hour for twelve weeks at an average of 40 hours per week. Office hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Weekend and evening work may be required, must have a flexible schedule. The position will last 12 weeks from intern start date.

POLICE DEPARTMENT

POLICE OFFICER

The Town of Winterville is currently accepting applications for full-time Police Officer.  Selected candidates will perform a full range of general law enforcement duties.  Duties will include, but are not limited to, patrolling the Town during an assigned shift in a police car or on foot; preventing, detecting and investigating disturbances and crime; performing traffic control work; apprehending suspects; and executing related assignments.

Position requires graduation from high school or the equivalent; current certification as a law enforcement officer in North Carolina; and a valid State of North Carolina driver’s license. 

Salary range: $39,660 to $59,493 with starting salary DOQ. RESERVE POLICE OFFICER

The Town of Winterville Police Department is currently accepting applications for Reserve Police Officers.  Selected candidates will perform a full range of general law enforcement duties, including but not limited to: patrolling the Town; investigating disturbances/alleged criminal activity; performing traffic control; working special events and other law enforcement related activities as assigned.

Position requires graduation from high school or the equivalent; NC BLET Certification; completion of 2017 (calendar year) in-service training requirements; current certification as a law enforcement officer in North Carolina; and a valid State of North Carolina driver’s license. 

Entry Level Salary range: $15.00 to $22.00 per hour with starting salary DOQ.
