Animal Control

 The Town of Winterville employs an Animal Control Officer who is charged with carrying out Town Ordinances that relate to Animals.  The Animal Control Officer works closely with the Police Department who investigate all animal control issues.  The Police Department handles the initial investigation and handles all enforcement violations. The duties of the Animal Control Officer include but are not limited to the following:

  • Impound dog/cat if owner cannot be identified or if owner refuses to abate the situation.
  • Animals held for 72 hours become the property of the Town and are typically carried to the Pitt County Animal Shelter for adoption or euthanized.
