PITT COUNTY DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION STRATEGIC PLAN:

2013 Strategic Plan – Pitt County Development Commission – November 2013.

Comprehensive Strategic Process Review – Southern Growth Policies Board – November 2013.  A process to reevaluate the strategic direction and program of work for the Pitt County Development Commission with the goal of moving the organization from its current to its desired position.

NORTH CAROLINA’S EASTERN REGION STUDIES:

“Cluster Analysis of NC’s Eastern Region” – Center for Regional Economic Competitiveness – December 2005.  The goal of the study was to provide a broader understanding of opportunities and challenges in North Carolina’s Eastern Region and to provide insights on which clusters and related industries will most likely drive future growth.

“The Business Perspective on Regional Economic Prosperity”- Center for Regional Economic Competitiveness – December 2005.  A survey of businesses in North Carolina’s Eastern Region.  The purpose of the survey was to strengthen the cluster study by identifying linkages between industries in the region and the opportunities and challenges these linkages present.  The report also suggests several ways these findings can be used in ED planning.

“North Carolina’s Eastern Region Regional Cluster Analysis” – Center for Regional Economic Competitiveness – March 2012.  An update to the December 2005 study including an assessment of the performance of the region’s key economic clusters.

“A Vision Plan for North Carolina’s Eastern Region” – Strategic Planning Committee and Center for Regional Economic Competitiveness – May 2006.  A roadmap for action to guide regional leaders in the private, public, and academic sectors.

“Young Professionals in the Metropolitan East” – UNC Program on Public Life – December 2009.  The study polled Eastern Region young professionals to determine the attractiveness of the area and to identify areas for improvement for those that do or will live and work in eastern North Carolina. “North Carolina’s Eastern Region: Through a Metropolitan Lens” – UNC Program on Public Life – July 2011. Fuller, more in-depth report using findings from the December 2009 study of young professionals in North Carolina’s Eastern Region.

LIFE SCIENCES/BIOTECH STUDIES:

“Building the Life Sciences Community in the NC BioEast Alliance Region”- BioAbility LLC – February 2008.  Recommendations for expanding the life sciences community in the BioEast Alliance Region (Edgecombe, Nash, Pitt, Wayne, and Wilson counties).

“North Carolina Biopharma Manufacturing Labor Market Analysis – Eastern Region”- Biggins Lacy Shapiro & Company – January 2009. The purpose of the study was to gauge the capability of the region’s labor force to sustain additional biomanufacturing plant investments.

“30 in 10 – Growing North Carolina’s AgBiotech Landscape” – North Carolina Biotechnology Center – Autumn 2009.  Strategies to achieve the goal of adding $30 billion to North Carolina’s economy over the next 10 years by combining traditional agricultural and new technology strengths with a focus on agricultural biotechnology.

“Eastern Region Bio Competitive Positioning Analysis”- Biggins, Lacy, Shapiro & Company – October 2012.  This report is the culmination of a seven month effort to understand Pitt County’s competitive advantages as they apply to what is commonly referred to as the Biotechnology industry and to identify sector-relevant strategies for indigenous growth and/or business attraction efforts. The Pitt County Development Commission, a member of the Bio-East Alliance and North Carolina’s Eastern Region, spearheaded the effort, which also received funding from the North Carolina Biotechnology Center.

REGIONAL ECONOMIC REPORTS:

2011 Region Q Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy - Mid-East Commission – 2011 Annual Update.  CEDS document for Region Q which consists of Beaufort, Bertie, Hertford, Martin, and Pitt Counties.
