Part-time Engineer

The Town of Winterville is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of part-time Firefighter/Engineer.  Work involves responding to the scene of emergency and non-emergency calls, operating and maintaining emergency apparatus and equipment, performing firefighting, technical rescue, emergency medical care, fire and life safety education, and other duties as assigned.  Work also includes cleaning and maintenance of vehicles and facilities, in-service training, training and mentoring other firefighters, and providing assistance to members of volunteer fire and emergency medical service organizations, as requested.  Applicant must be able to follow and understand standard operating guidelines and Pitt County EMS Protocols. Employees in this class are exposed to the significant hazards of emergency fire, rescue, and EMS work, including risk of exposure to hazardous and IDLH environments, physical and mental stress, human body fluids and infectious diseases, thus the work is subject to the OSHA requirements for blood borne pathogens.  Ability to function on a regular basis while using personal protective equipment to include SCBA is required.

Graduation from high school or the equivalent with a North Carolina Fire & Rescue Commission Driver Operator-Pumps, Emergency Vehicle Driver, Firefighter I-II and at least 3 years of field service required. Qualified applicants must also be EMT-Basic, NIMS compliant, have the ability to pass Medical Boards and function in Pitt County per Medical Director’s requirements and have a valid North Carolina Class B Non-CDL Driver’s License. Applicants must successfully complete pre-employment drug screening, criminal background check, and NFPA/OSHA physical evaluation. Salary range: DOQ.
