EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

The Town of Winterville seeks qualified candidates for the position of Equipment Operator. An employee in this class performs responsible semi-skilled equipment operation and trades work in the operation of large motorized equipment and construction and maintenance of streets, drainage systems, and in landscaping and collection of trash and yard waste. This position requires skilled knowledge in the operation of a backhoe, loader, or other medium equipment independently or with a street and maintenance crew. Work includes performing maintenance and servicing of equipment used. Work also includes assisting with a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled tasks when assigned to a crew. The employee is subject to hazards associated with public works including working in both inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather, and exposure to various hazards such as loud noises, vibration, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, chemicals, odors, dusts, mists, and oils.

Position requires graduation from high school or the equivalent and some considerable experience in the operation of motorized construction equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A NC commercial driver’s license or ability to obtain one within six (6) months is also required.

METER TECHNICIAN

The Town of Winterville seeks qualified candidates for the position of Meter Technician. Employees in this class are responsible for field clerical work in reading water and electric meters on assigned schedule and routes, semi-skilled to skilled work in connecting and disconnecting water and electric service, locating existing electric service for installing and maintaining meters, changing out meters, and assisting customers with trouble-shooting high usage problems and other issues related to utility usage and meters. Work is performed through a combination of walking and driving/riding trucks on the assigned routes. Work is accomplished through the operation of a handheld computer meter reading machine into which the employee must enter the correct meter readings. Public contact is required in answering citizens' questions about meter readings, usage, connection and disconnection and payment policies. Employees are subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, and hazards of bothersome animals and work must be performed in various kinds of weather, extreme temperatures, and with exposure to oils, fumes, and other atmospheric conditions. This position is considered a safety sensitive role. Work is performed under the supervision of the Meter Supervisor and is evaluated on the basis of complaint activity, effectiveness of the metering program, and accuracy of readings taken and records made.

Graduation from high school/GED and some trades/mechanical experience and in working with data and figures; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. POLICE OFFICER

PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR

The Town of Winterville seeks qualified candidates for the position of Public Works Director. An employee in this class performs difficult professional, technical, and administrative work planning, organizing, and directing a variety of public works and public utilities activities including: water and sewer line construction and maintenance; well and water distribution; lift station maintenance; storm water management; property maintenance; yard waste and trash collections; construction inspections; and street maintenance and repair. The employee plans, organizes and directs the work of employees engaged in a wide variety of municipal operations and services and also provides technical advice and assistance to the Town Manager and the Board in the improvement of utilities and streets, and insures that modern, safe, effective and efficient practices are utilized by municipal work crews. Work also includes participation as part of the Management Team with the Town Manager and other department heads; participation in long range planning for infrastructure needs; contract management; handling citizen issues; operating and capital budget development and implementation; and personnel administration of the department. The employee represents the town to a wide variety of citizens and officials. Work is performed independently and in coordination with the Town Manager and other town officials and is subject to working in inside and outside environments in extreme weather and in heavy traffic in the streets. Work is performed under the general direction of the Town Manager.

Graduation from college with a bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering or related field, and considerable experience in a responsible position in the public works or utilities field, including considerable supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license and possession of or ability to obtain distribution system B, well operator C, and/or collection system II certification, and other certifications as set forth by the Town such as cross connections is required. RECREATION PROGRAM SUPERVISOR

The Town of Winterville seeks qualified candidates for the position of Recreation Program Supervisor. This position plans, coordinates, teaches, and supervises a variety of athletics and leisure time activities for the citizens of the community. Work involves considerable planning and scheduling of activities and contact with participants and officiating personnel. The employee modifies existing recreational programs; recruits part-time and volunteer staff as well as participants; publicizes program activities; and supervises the successful implementation of such programs. Work may require an employee to participate in the activities associated with the operation of the Town’s athletics facilities and fields. Position requires some nights and weekend work. Work is performed in accordance with departmental rules and policies and requires judgmental discretion in the application and interpretation of programs, game rules, and procedures. Employee is subject to hazards in parks and recreation including working in both extreme hot and cold weather, and exposure to the hazards of motorized equipment. Work is performed under the general direction of the Parks and Recreation Director.

Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in recreation administration or closely related degree and some experience in recreation and athletics, preferably in the municipal setting; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. UTILITY/PUMP MAINTENANCE MECHANIC

The Town of Winterville is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Utility/Pump Maintenance Mechanic. An employee in this class performs journey level mechanical work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of large and specialized equipment and machinery in water and sewer pumping stations and performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled work as a member of a crew engaged in the construction, installation and repair of water and sewer lines and appurtenances. Work involves responsibility for maintaining and repairing a variety of pumps and motors and other equipment in water and sewer pumping stations. Work requires a knowledge of trade skills in mechanical and plumbing areas with some knowledge of electrical repairs. Duties will, include but are not limited, to the operation of construction equipment in the installation, replacement and repair of water and sewer pipes to specific grade and depth, and back filling and compacting the site. Work also includes making taps to water and sewer mains, installing hydrants, meters, and valves, and making repairs to the water and sewer system. Other tasks include assisting in the operation of video camera equipment to identify system problems, performing checks and preventive maintenance and repair to wells, and related tasks.

Position requires graduation from high school or the equivalent and some experience in construction-related utility work including heavy equipment operation experience; or experience in well system operation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; ability to obtain grade C well operator certification and/or grade I wastewater collection certification within twelve (12) months of hiring; and a valid State of North Carolina commercial driver’s license (CDL).
