BUILDING INSPECTIONS

PART-TIME BUILDING INSPECTOR.

The Town of Winterville seeks qualified candidates for the position of Part-Time Building Inspector. The qualified candidate will work approximately eighteen (18) hours a week depending on schedules. An employee in this class performs building inspections, housing inspections, code enforcement and other work to ensure compliance of buildings and property with proper codes, ordinances, and regulations. Work involves performing inspections, providing citizen information, and performing record-keeping necessary to administer Town zoning ordinances and the State building codes. The employee provides information to developers, contractors and homeowners regarding the permit and development review processes, FEMA regulations, and other planning issues and codes; tracks permits and inspections status; schedules inspections. Work includes the inspection of construction, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical installations with code compliance; and the reporting on inspections activities. The employee works daily with contractors, architects, engineers, and homeowners in complying with State and local ordinances and codes. Tact, courtesy, and firmness must be exercised in dealing with professionals and the general public. Work subjects the employee to inside and outside environmental conditions; extremes in temperature; hazards associated with construction work; and may require one to work in close quarters, crawl spaces, and similar enclosed spaces.

Graduation from high school and considerable experience in the building construction industry; prefer some experience in the enforcement of state and local codes; or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Standard state certification as a Level II Building Inspector in building, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical disciplines and possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license is also required. PARKS AND RECREATION

Parks and Recreation After-School Hoops Site Supervisor.

The Town of Winterville Parks and Recreation seeks qualified candidates for the position of After-School Hoops Site Supervisor.  An employee in this class will oversee the After-School Hoops Program held at Hillcrest Park from roughly 3 pm – 6 pm every Monday and Thursday afternoon. Work is performed under direct supervision of the Recreation Program Supervisor.  The After-School Hoops Site Supervisor will be directly responsible for (but not limited to) setting up equipment, monitoring facility, providing positive and safe environment for children/participants, handling emergencies and/or injuries, interacting/participating with the children/participants. Applicants must possess excellent communication skills, an energetic and self-motivated personality, and strong leadership capabilities.  The anticipated dates for employment are April 6 – June 1, 2020.

Graduation from High School or GED is required and possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license.  Current pursuit of a degree in recreation or recreation-related field and current CPR/First Aid certification preferred but not required. Winterville Parks and Recreation Internship Summer 2020.

The Town of Winterville seeks a Parks and Recreation Intern. The goal of the Parks and Recreation Intern program is to allow the successful candidate to gain valuable work experience in Recreation administration, programming, facility management, and park management.

The internship is open to Undergraduate and Graduate students, as well as those who have recently completed their Undergraduate or Graduate programs and are seeking temporary practical training.  Interns should be enthusiastic, self-motivated, have strong communication, analytical reasoning, and research skills, as well as knowledge of recreation programming principles and methods. Must be able to work under time constraints, multi-task, and work independently as well as within a Team. 

Specific duties during the Internship include (but not limited to) maintenance, programming, and administrative work agendas. Assisting in the development and operation of Recreation programs related to environmental education, cultural arts, senior citizens, athletics, health and fitness, summer camp, and other areas of Recreation programming.  Maintenance of Parks and facilities that include operating machinery such as mowers, weed-eaters, paint machines, etc.

The rate of pay is $8.00 per hour for twelve weeks at an average of 40 hours per week. Office hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Weekend and evening work may be required, must have a flexible schedule. The position will last 12 weeks from Intern start date in May 2020.
