CHIEF BUILDING INSPECTOR/CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER.

The Town of Winterville seeks qualified candidates for the position of Chief Building Inspector/ Code Enforcement Officer. An employee in this class performs code enforcement, building inspections, housing inspections, and other work to ensure compliance of buildings and property with proper codes, ordinances, and regulations. Work involves performing inspections, providing citizen information, and performing record-keeping necessary to administer Town zoning ordinances and the State building codes. CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE.

An employee in this position will work half a day in Finance Department and half a day in the Inspections/GIS Department.

Finance Department - An employee in this position is responsible for activities which involve the handling of customer inquiries relating to utility billings and collections, general fiscal support and reporting activities; preparing files to generate utility bills; preparing and verifying a variety of reports and records; collecting utility bills, ad valorem taxes, and other revenues; and coordinating with the field services functions.  Work is performed in an office environment under regular supervision and is evaluated through observation, conferences, by accuracy and timeliness of customer service and bills, and the thoroughness of assigned responsibilities. ELECTRIC LINE TECHNICIAN – THIRD CLASS.

The Town of Winterville seeks qualified candidates for the position of Electric Line Technician – Third Class.  This position performs technical work in the installation, maintenance and repair of underground or overhead electrical distribution lines; tree trimming and related line clearance work.  The employee is also responsible for the operation of various trucks and equipment such as line trucks, cable trucks, backhoes, and bucket trucks; answering calls for service to hook up and discontinue service.  The employee works closely with higher-level workers and serves as an assistant to them by keeping tools and supplies available to furnish them upon request.  The employee is expected to perform apprentice level work, and to observe and, on occasion, perform some skilled electrical distribution work, under close supervision, in order to gain experience.  Position requires frequent on-call and callback responsibilities.  Work is performed under close supervision.

METER TECHNICIAN.

The Town of Winterville seeks qualified candidates for the position of Meter Technician. Performs field clerical work in reading electric and water meters, semi-skilled to skilled work in cutting utility service on and off, locating existing electric service installing and maintaining meters, and customer service work investigating high usage rates, assisting customers with issues related to utility usage and meters. Employees in this class are responsible for reading water and electric meters on assigned schedule and routes, connecting and disconnecting water and electric service, changing out meters, and trouble-shooting high usage problems.  Work is performed through a combination of walking and riding trucks on the assigned routes. Work is accomplished through the operation of a hand-held computer meter reading machine into which the employee must enter the correct meter readings. Public contact is required in answering citizens' questions about meter readings, usage, connection and disconnection and payment policies.  Employees are subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, and hazards of bothersome animals and work must be performed in various kinds of weather, extreme temperatures, and with exposure to oils, fumes, and other atmospheric conditions.  This position is considered a safety sensitive role. Work is performed under the supervision of the Meter Supervisor and is evaluated based on complaint activity, effectiveness of the metering program, and accuracy of readings taken and records made.

OFFICE MANAGER – WINTERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT.

Serves as information source for law enforcement records for insurance companies, attorneys, news media, and the general public; prepares and distributes new releases. Conducts data entry and retrieval of information on DCI computers; serves as Terminal Agency Coordinator for DCI and files required reports. Other duties include reviewing reports for accuracy and thoroughness; preparing materials for filing and filing them; processing mail; and related work. Work requires knowledge of specialized police software, and/or financial software.  May serve as support staff in emergency and disaster situation; other Department-specific tasks may be performed. The employee is expected to follow standard processes and to assure the confidentiality and security of records. UTILITY/PUMP MAINTENANCE MECHANIC.

The Town of Winterville is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Utility/Pump Maintenance Mechanic.  An employee in this class performs journey level mechanical work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of large and specialized equipment and machinery in water and sewer pumping stations and performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled work as a member of a crew engaged in the construction, installation and repair of water and sewer lines and appurtenances.  Work involves responsibility for maintaining and repairing a variety of pumps and motors and other equipment in water and sewer pumping stations.  Work requires a knowledge of trade skills in mechanical and plumbing areas with some knowledge of electrical repairs.  Duties will, include but are not limited, to the operation of construction equipment in the installation, replacement and repair of water and sewer pipes to specific grade and depth, and back filling and compacting the site. Work also includes making taps to water and sewer mains, installing hydrants, meters, and valves, and making repairs to the water and sewer system.  Other tasks include performing locates of all pertinent water and sewer infrastructure, assisting in the operation of video camera equipment to identify system problems, performing checks and preventive maintenance and repair to wells, and related tasks. PART-TIME FIRE ENGINEER

The Town of Winterville is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of part-time Fire Engineer. Work involves responding to the scene of emergency and non-emergency calls, operating and maintaining emergency apparatus and equipment, performing firefighting, technical rescue, emergency medical care, fire and life safety education, and other duties as assigned. Work also includes cleaning and maintenance of vehicles and facilities, in-service training, training and mentoring other firefighters, and providing assistance to members of volunteer fire and emergency medical service organizations, as requested.
