BUILDING INSPECTIONS

PART-TIME BUILDING INSPECTOR.

The Town of Winterville seeks qualified candidates for the position of Part-Time Building Inspector. The qualified candidate will work approximately eighteen (18) hours a week depending on schedules. An employee in this class performs building inspections, housing inspections, code enforcement and other work to ensure compliance of buildings and property with proper codes, ordinances, and regulations. Work involves performing inspections, providing citizen information, and performing record-keeping necessary to administer Town zoning ordinances and the State building codes. The employee provides information to developers, contractors and homeowners regarding the permit and development review processes, FEMA regulations, and other planning issues and codes; tracks permits and inspections status; schedules inspections. Work includes the inspection of construction, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical installations with code compliance; and the reporting on inspections activities. The employee works daily with contractors, architects, engineers, and homeowners in complying with State and local ordinances and codes. Tact, courtesy, and firmness must be exercised in dealing with professionals and the general public. Work subjects the employee to inside and outside environmental conditions; extremes in temperature; hazards associated with construction work; and may require one to work in close quarters, crawl spaces, and similar enclosed spaces.

Graduation from high school and considerable experience in the building construction industry; prefer some experience in the enforcement of state and local codes; or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Standard state certification as a Level II Building Inspector in building, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical disciplines and possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license is also required. ELECTRIC DEPARTMENT

ELECTRIC LINE TECHNICIAN – THIRD CLASS

The Town of Winterville seeks qualified candidates for the position of Electric Line Technician – Third Class.  This position performs technical work in the installation, maintenance and repair of underground or overhead electrical distribution lines; tree trimming and related line clearance work.  The employee is also responsible for the operation of various trucks and equipment such as line trucks, cable trucks, backhoes, and bucket trucks; answering calls for service to hook up and discontinue service.  The employee works closely with higher-level workers and serves as an assistant to them by keeping tools and supplies available to furnish them upon request.  The employee is expected to perform apprentice level work, and to observe and, on occasion, perform some skilled electrical distribution work, under close supervision, in order to gain experience.  Position requires frequent on-call and callback responsibilities.  Work is performed under close supervision.

Graduation from high school/GED with some college or technical training and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.  A NC commercial driver’s license (CDL) is required or ability to obtain one within six (6) months.  Salary range: $37,244 to $55,865 with starting salary DOQ. FIRE DEPARTMENT

Fire Engineer

The Town of Winterville is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Fire Engineer.   Work involves providing intermediate protective service work and technically difficult work to include driving fire apparatus, operating fire pumps and other fire, rescue, and ems equipment, and performing other fire, rescue, and ems assignments as needed. Employees in this class are exposed to the significant hazards of emergency fire, rescue, and EMS work, including risk of exposure to hazardous and IDLH environments.  Ability to function on a regular basis while using personal protective equipment to include SCBA is required.

Position requires graduation from high school or the equivalent and considerable experience in fire-rescue-ems operations including some supervisory experience. Qualified applicants must possess have a valid North Carolina Class B Non-CDL Driver’s License and Firefighter I and II Certifications. Ability to obtain Technical Rescuer certification issued by N.C Fire & Rescue Commission, EMT-Basic issued by State of North Carolina, approval by the Pitt County Medical Director to Practice as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic/Intermediate/Paramedic, Child Passenger Safety Seat Technician Certification within twelve (12) months of hiring, and clearance by physician to utilize respiratory protection including but not limited to SCBA and SABA within 90 days of hiring.
