METER TECHNICIAN

The Town of Winterville seeks qualified candidates for the position of Meter Technician. Employees in this class are responsible for field clerical work in reading water and electric meters on assigned schedule and routes, semi-skilled to skilled work in connecting and disconnecting water and electric service, locating existing electric service for installing and maintaining meters, changing out meters, and assisting customers with trouble-shooting high usage problems and other issues related to utility usage and meters.  Work is performed through a combination of walking and driving/riding trucks on the assigned routes. Work is accomplished through the operation of a handheld computer meter reading machine into which the employee must enter the correct meter readings. Public contact is required in answering citizens' questions about meter readings, usage, connection and disconnection and payment policies.  Employees are subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, and hazards of bothersome animals and work must be performed in various kinds of weather, extreme temperatures, and with exposure to oils, fumes, and other atmospheric conditions.  This position is considered a safety sensitive role. Work is performed under the supervision of the Meter Supervisor and is evaluated on the basis of complaint activity, effectiveness of the metering program, and accuracy of readings taken and records made.

Graduation from high school/GED and some trades/mechanical experience and in working with data and figures; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  A NC driver’s license is required. Salary range: $39,607- $56,951 with starting salary DOQ. EXECUTIVE STAFF ASSISTANT

The Town of Winterville is currently accepting applications for a full-time Executive Staff Assistant.  An employee in this class works independently to perform a full range of administrative and program support duties in an office requiring a comprehensive understanding of the departmental mission, rules, regulations, goals and services. The successful candidate will perform a wide variety of administrative and technical support, secretarial, and office management functions in support of the daily operations for the Town Manager, Mayor/Town Council, and other officials. Work generally requires that employees independently perform assigned administrative and technical functions that support a program area of the Town operation. Positions in the class require office management skills and may include supervisory or program management tasks. Administrative duties require tact and discretion in handling sensitive or confidential matters in the program areas. The employee may be assigned projects that are paraprofessional in nature that would require advanced training or considerable program experience to function at a competent level. Work requires independence and self-initiative in activities and may include supervising or providing technical assistance to other staff in the organization. Sound judgment is required in performing the responsibilities. Work is performed under the supervision of the Town Manager.

An Associate’s degree in Business, or related field and three (3) years of progressive executive level clerical and administrative support, human resource or related experience; or, a Bachelor’s degree in Business Secretarial Science, or related field and two (2) years of executive clerical or administrative support; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid North Carolina Driver’s License and ability to obtain a Notary Public certification within six (6) months is required.

Salary range: $50,547 to $75,825 with starting salary DOQ. PARKS AND RECREATION BASEBALL SCOREKEEPER

An employee in this class is responsible for running the scoreboard; keeping the books; general game supervision; and setting up before and breaking down after games. PARKS AND RECREATION CONCESSION ATTENDANT

The Town of Winterville Parks and Recreation seeks qualified candidates for Concessions Attendant. An employee in this class is responsible for assisting with the daily operation and maintenance of a concession stand to include operating concession equipment; preparing food; serving food; cleaning and sanitizing to government regulated health standards; opening, operating, and closing cash drawer; compiling daily financial reports. In addition, an employee in this class may provide general support for events and programs to include equipment set-up and breakdown; trash pick up and disposal; facility cleaning; and general athletic field maintenance. Work is performed under direct supervision of the Recreation Program Supervisor. Must be available weeknights and weekends; weeknight operations primarily take place from 5:00pm - 9:30pm; Saturday and Sunday operations have varying times.

PARKS AND RECREATION SITE SUPERVISOR

The Town of Winterville Parks and Recreation seeks qualified candidates for the position of Site Supervisor. An employee in this class provides evening and weekend facility supervision of part-time employees. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Recreation Program Supervisor. The Site Supervisor will be directly responsible for (but not limited to): opening and closing of facilities, upholding facility/departmental rules, supervision of part-time employees (concessions, scorekeepers, officials, etc.), monitoring weather conditions, monitoring facility, providing a positive and safe environment for children/participants, handling emergencies and/or injuries, filing reports on all incidents, interacting with the public, identifying and solving problematic situations. Applicants must possess excellent communication skills, an energetic and self-motivated personality, and strong leadership capabilities.

Graduation from high school or GED is required and possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license. Current pursuit of a degree in recreation or recreation-related field and current CPR/First Aid certification preferred but not required. Hourly Rate: $10 per hour. PART-TIME FIRE ENGINEER

The Town of Winterville is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of part-time Fire Engineer. Work involves responding to the scene of emergency and non-emergency calls, operating and maintaining emergency apparatus and equipment, performing firefighting, technical rescue, emergency medical care, fire and life safety education, and other duties as assigned. Work also includes cleaning and maintenance of vehicles and facilities, in-service training, training, and mentoring other firefighters, and aiding members of volunteer fire and emergency medical service organizations, as requested. Applicant must be able to follow and understand standard operating guidelines and Pitt County EMS Protocols. Employees in this class are exposed to the significant hazards of emergency fire, rescue, and EMS work, including risk of exposure to hazardous and IDLH environments, physical and mental stress, human body fluids, and infectious diseases, thus the work is subject to the OSHA requirements for bloodborne pathogens. Ability to function on a regular basis while using personal protective equipment including SCBA is required.

Graduation from high school or the equivalent with a North Carolina Fire & Rescue Commission Driver Operator-Pumps, Emergency Vehicle Driver, Firefighter I-II and at least 3 years of field service required. Qualified applicants must also be EMT-Basic, NIMS compliant, have the ability to pass Medical Boards and function in Pitt County per Medical Director’s requirements, and have a valid North Carolina Class B Non-CDL Driver’s License. Applicants must successfully complete pre-employment drug screening, criminal background check, and NFPA/OSHA physical evaluation. Salary range: DOQ.
